Ask Patents is a question and answer site for people interested in improving and participating in the patent system. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Is there a patent for allowing an online user the option to continue playing a free-to-play game (with limits until you need to pay) or reading a book where first three pages are for free unless you pay the fee, however, by watching advertisements you can continue to enjoy what you're doing instead of paying the respective fee? So instead of buying more coins or wait til tomw when they get 50 free coins again, the user now has the option of watching a number of ads in exchange for the play-time that the coins would have paid for. Is there already a patented technology like this, or should I go patent what we've developed?

All of the existing apps that are already doing this are prior art, so there's not much point filing a patent unless you are doing something new and innovative. –  Jeff-Inventor ChromeOS Aug 9 '14 at 22:47
