Ask Patents is a question and answer site for people interested in improving and participating in the patent system. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Does it violate a USPTO regulation, or otherwise cause problems, to include a USPTO web page screen shot as part of the drawings? I cannot find any MPEP entries or rules relating to this.

I used a couple of screen shots of such a page, showing a sequence of how my software/method can manipulate the page in a useful way, as part of our filed patent application, figuring examiners would be familiar with the page and so be in a better place to understand the invention. In a recent conversation with the examiner about an office action, this was obliquely referred to as a potential issue, but not explicitly cited as inappropriate (and there was nothing in the OA about it).

Thoughts?
