Ask Patents is a question and answer site for people interested in improving and participating in the patent system. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have many ideas in the past... and I've failed many of them. But I have a newer idea that believe could hold some value, would rather take an experts opinion on the idea to disprove it or find what I'm missing.

Can I discuss my idea to a scientist that I know, through a website? I have important information of that person(name, e-mail, university, pictures) and will document everything, and most importantly will let him pledge not to give any information to anyone without permission.

I can't afford a lawyer, or file a patent because I'm not sure if this idea would work.
