“Patent pending” is a mark that can be included in the description of a product to indicate that some aspects of that product is covered by a patent application that has been filed, but not yet abandoned or granted.

Where can I check for the existence of a (pending) patent?

Patent applications are published 18 months after they have been filed. After that you can find the pending application in the big patent databases. To look for a patent document with XXX as applicant …
